Ruth Orme-Johnson, LCSW

Wherever you are on your mental health journey, I would like to meet you and support your healing process.

I have been a social worker for over a decade. During this time, I have supported individuals and families through major life transitions and experiences including new diagnoses, incarceration, divorce, and loss of a loved one. I am a psychodynamic practitioner with roots in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This means that I know that thoughts, feelings and actions are interconnected, and that all three have deeper meaning related to past experiences that are worthy of exploration. I believe that while therapeutic orientation is important, each client has a unique set of needs that require a unique approach. As a member of the LGBT+ community, I bring an understanding of queer culture and the needs of queer clients to my work.

My experience includes significant work with children and families, particularly regarding school-related issues. I hold a Master of Social Work degree from Boston University and a Bachelor of Science in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University. I have three years of experience as a School Social Worker, and have received training from the Mindsight Institute. I am open to seeing clients of all ages and stages, and I look forward to working with you.

I offer weekly in-person and telehealth therapy sessions to clients in Illinois. I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Health Care plans, and am also happy to discuss sliding scale options.
